The Glenmorangie Distillery, which is also known as the Distillers of Tain, has existed for more than 175 years. The Highland whisky makers swear by five key ingredients – wood, water, barley, yeast and time – to create outstanding whiskies. The distillery has the tallest stills in Scotland, which are used to make the malts. The management was taken over by Dr. Bill Lumsden, Director of Whisky Creation.
Quinta is the name of the Portuguese vineyard from which the port casks in which this Glenmorangie is post-matured come. Ruban is the Gaelic word for ruby and means the ruby red color that is given to the whiskey by this post-maturation.
After a 10-year storage in former bourbon barrels, it spends another four years in former port wine barrels.
The bottling is not chill-filtered.
Color: ruby red.
Nose: Soft, pleasant.
Taste: Silky, soft texture, dark chocolate, tangerines, oranges.
