Distillery Knockdhu (Gaelic for ‘black hill Cnoc Dubh’), based in the Eastern Highlands, is not well known even to connoisseurs.
This may be due to the distillery’s unexciting history. Since 1894 the distillery has been more or less owned by the same people.
Since InverHouse took over the distillery in 1989, there has been some movement in the history of Knockdhu.
At the request of Justerini & Brooks, 12-year-old Knockdhu was renamed AnCnoc to avoid confusion with Knockando from J&B.
By the way, AnCnoc is pronounced [a-nock].
The 12-year-old AnCnoc is an exceptionally mild and elegant malt with only very slight hints of peatiness.
Colour: Rich gold.
Nose: Soft, hints of honey, lemons.
Taste: Sweet, fruity, complex.
Finish: Long lasting, smooth.
